Nan Named Distinguished Scholar-Teacher

Only the third Distinguished Scholar-Teacher in COMM History

Congratulations to Professor Xiaoli Nan who has been named a 2020-2021 Distinguished Scholar-Teacher at the University of Maryland. The Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Program, established in 1978, honors a small number of faculty members each year who have demonstrated notable success in both scholarship and teaching. Distinguished Scholar-Teachers make a public presentation on a topic within their scholarly discipline, and receive an honorarium of $5000 to support their professional activities.

Professor Nan is the third faculty member from the Department of Communication to be named a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher and is the first from the department in 32 years. Previous Distinguished Scholar-Teachers from the department include Professor Emeritus Edward L. Fink in 1988 and former faculty member Kathleen Hall Jamieson in 1981.
